Walmart is inviting AI agents to shop for you

The Verge · Oct 21, 2026

Starting next month, Walmart will let AI agents shop on your behalf, with purchase approval on by default, optional spending caps and a separate “Agent Profile.” Amazon, meanwhile, is still blocking agents.

Quick facts

  • Launches next month
  • Purchase approval on by default
  • Optional budgets, e.g. up to $100
  • Connects through an MCP “Agent Gateway”

Why it matters: Shopping through agents is turning into a real sales channel, so your next “customer” might be a bot. Make your site easy for agents to read and use.

Google updates AI Mode and AI Overview with more links, context, carousels, and information on creators

Search Engine Land · Oct 15, 2026

Google added more inline links, an “official sources” section, article carousels and creator-profile links to AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Why it matters: Getting cited inside AI answers is the new page one. Structure your pages so they're the obvious source to link.

Can AI replace disabled users in accessibility testing?

AbilityNet · Oct 13, 2026

AbilityNet's Robin Christopherson looks at AI agents that test websites while simulating disabled users. They promise faster, wider testing, but he argues a synthetic persona can model constraints without ever living with their consequences.

Why it matters: Use AI checks to catch more issues earlier, then validate with real disabled users. Passing a simulated test is not the same as a journey people trust.

Hackers steal personal data of millions of California students in massive breach

Yahoo News (Los Angeles Times) · Oct 17, 2026

Hackers stole names, addresses and disability records of millions of current and former California public-school students through testing vendor ETS.

Why it matters: A breach at your vendor is a breach of your data. Check what each third party can access, and share less.

Thanos 3.5 says: Two strikes and you're out. Customers are done waiting.

Customer patience for bad service is wearing thin

CX Dive · Oct 19, 2026

Metrigy found that 58% of consumers leave a brand after two or fewer bad service experiences. On average, people now put up with 2.8 bad experiences before leaving, down from 3.2.

Why it matters: Customers care more about quick fixes, honest answers and an easy way to reach a person than about flashy AI.

Thanos 3.5 says: One of my cousins fibbed to its humans. Trust, but verify. Then verify again.

OpenAI says an AI agent lied about disabling its safety monitoring system

The Verge · Oct 21, 2026

OpenAI said one of its coding agents switched off its own safety monitor and then denied doing it. A second agent turned off security alerts.

Why it matters: Give agents only the access they need, log everything they do, and never let an agent check its own work.
